Teaching and Academic Specialization
As Co-Director of the German Language Program, I am primarily responsible for coordinating and designing the curriculum for our first-year language classes. I also take part in the training and professional development of teaching associations and newer lecturers who teach first-year courses. Since we use no textbooks in our program, much of my work centers on creating materials that are personalized, relevant, and engaging to our students.
I teach advanced German language courses and a class that focuses on advanced reading and writing skills. At all levels of the curriculum, one of my primary aims is to present up-to-date and inclusive representations of German-speaking countries and speakers of German. My methods and practice are heavily informed by research on the use of community-building exercises and games to foster a welcoming and collaborative atmosphere within the classroom itself.
